Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of the greatest parliamentarians of India, born on 25th December 1924 in Gwalior, in today’s Madhya Pradesh. He did his post-graduation in political science from DAV College Kanpur. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was Member of Parliament for over four decades having been elected to Lok Sabha, ten times and twice to the Rajya Sabha. He was the most respected and regarded politician, leader and parliamentarian cutting across different sections of the society and political spectrum. He served as Prime Minister of India for three terms 1996, 1998-1999 and 1999-2004. Twice he led Indian delegation to UN at least seven times. The nation has honored him with Padma Vibhushan and Best Parliamentarian Award. 11th May 1998 was truly a golden day when as Prime Minister of India he announced to the nation and rest of the successful underground nuclear test in Pokhram. At the same time he made it clear India’s stand on nuclear weapon that India wanted peace, harmony. He also sought to improve diplomatic relation with Pakistan, travelling to Lahore by Bus. He steered country to victory in 1999 Kargil War. He undertook many reforms measures with regards to the country and keeping it on the liberalization track including initiation of Golden quadrilateral project. He was also conferred with country’s highest civilian award “Bharat Ratna” In year 2015.
